PART 6 -“VAU: Reconnecting to First Love”
1. Introduction: VAU (WAW) and the Church of Ephesus
Even when it feels like we are doing well, there are moments when life seems to reset—like starting over again. Routine can fade into repetition. Truth can remain, yet love can quietly diminish. The question is not whether we know the truth, but whether we still carry the love of God.
The Church of Ephesus was a working church—but affection was replaced with activity. They labored faithfully, yet passion, intimacy, and fellowship grew cold. This was not a church without truth; it was a church without first love.
Jesus calls them to repent—not from sin alone, but from distance. He invites them to return to the place where they first encountered His love. The first touch. The first surrender. The first fire.
If they overcome, the reward is great: access to the Tree of Life, found in the paradise of God. This reminds us that even when we work hard for God, we can still lose the tenderness of loving Him.
Through warning, correction, encouragement, and promise, God teaches us that endurance is not only about perseverance in works—but perseverance in love—until He returns.

CONNECTING VAU/WAW TO ONE OF THE SEVEN CHURCHES

Church: Ephesus (Rev. 2:1–7) KJV
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
1. Church of Ephesus – The Loveless Church
Issue: They worked hard for God but lost their first love—intimacy, passion, and fellowship.
Call: Remember, repent, and return to your first love.
Reward for the Overcomer:
✅ Eat from the Tree of Life
(Access to eternal life in the paradise of God)
Tree of Life (Ephesus)
Revelation 22:2
The Tree of Life is in the New Jerusalem, accessible to all the redeemed.
Ephesus was reminded of lost intimacy
Others were not excluded from eternal life
Spirit: Spirit of WISDOM
Theme: Love restored through remembrance
Why this Spirit:
Wisdom reconnects truth to love.
Connection:
Vau = connection
Ephesus lost first love
Wisdom restores right priorities
Promise:
Eat from the Tree of Life
Anchor: Psalm 119:41 / Rev. 2:4–5
2. Revelation 2:1–7 — The Call to Ephesus
Key phrases:
“You have left your first love”
“Remember therefore from where you have fallen”
“Repent and do the first works”
“To him who overcomes…”
Ephesus is not rebuked for false doctrine — it is called back to love.
3. Why VAU Fits Ephesus Perfectly
VAU (Connection) | Ephesus (Condition) |
Mercy fuels obedience | Works replaced affection |
Truth spoken in love | Truth without warmth |
Obedience with joy | Obedience by duty |
Worship as response | Service without intimacy |
Meditation restores | Remembrance rekindles love |
VAU answers Ephesus’ need: reconnection to first love.
Balanced Teaching Statement
“Ephesus did not lose truth — it lost connection.
VAU calls the Church back to love that fuels obedience.”
4. One-Sentence Transition into Psalm 119:41–48 (VAU)
As Jesus calls the Church of Ephesus back to love, Psalm 119 reveals
that true devotion is sustained not by effort alone, but by mercy, truth,
and a heart that clings to God’s Word.
5. Closing Exhortation for “Ephesus-Type” Believers
Beloved, faithfulness in service does not replace intimacy with God. You can be busy
for Him and still be distant from Him. Jesus is not rebuking your labor—He is
inviting your heart. Return to the place where obedience flowed from love, not
obligation. Let your works be fueled by affection, your truth be wrapped in mercy,
and your endurance be anchored in devotion. Remember where you fell from, repent,
and do again the first works—not as routine, but as relationship.
6. Gentle Altar Call — Returning to First Love
If your walk with God feels more like duty than delight…
If prayer feels routine instead of relational…
If you are faithful, yet weary…
Hear the Spirit calling you back—not to more work, but to more love.
Today is not a day of shame, but of return. Lift your heart to God and say, “Restore
unto me the joy of my salvation.” Let mercy meet truth. Let love revive obedience. And let intimacy renew endurance—until He comes.
“Remember.
Repent.
Return — not to works, but to love.”
8. Closing Whisper (Optional Line)
“The Tree of Life is not earned through labor alone—
it is entered through love.”
