✨DAY 3 Of 12 DAY JOURNEY: UNLOCKING THE IDENTITY OF JESUS CHRIST

✨ Part 1: The Name and Mission of Jesus Confirmed Before Birth

1. His Name Revealed Before Conception

  • Luke 1:30–31 – The angel Gabriel tells Mary:

“Thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.”

  • The name was not man’s idea – it came directly from heaven.
  • Shows: Jesus was divinely appointed, not an accident of history.

2. His Name Confirmed at Circumcision

  • Luke 2:21 – On the eighth day, when the law of Moses required circumcision:

“His name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.”

  • Circumcision = covenant sign.
  • His name being given there = God’s covenant with humanity now has a Savior attached to it.
➡️ This shows that Jesus was not man’s idea. His identity and mission were established by God before Mary was ever pregnant.

3. His Name Confirmed to Joseph’s in a Dream

  • Matthew 1:20–21 – The angel tells Joseph:

“Fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife… and she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”Joseph didn’t choose the name. He obeyed the heavenly command.

  • Confirms the unity: Both Mary and Joseph heard the same name: JESUS = Savior.
  • Joseph didn’t know Mary yet in that way — but he received the same confirmation.
➡️ His name revealed His purpose before His birth: to save.

4. Mission Revealed in Prophecy of His Presence: Emmanuel

  • Matthew 1:22–23 – Quoting Isaiah 7:14:

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child… and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

  • Before He was born → His mission = God with us to save us.
  • He was not only Savior, but also God in the flesh dwelling with us.

5. Light Shining in Darkness

  • Matthew 4:16 –

“The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.”

  • Darkness = sin, ignorance, despair.
  • Great Light = Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12).
  • Shadow of death = humanity under sin and hopelessness.
  • Light sprung up = the sudden breaking of a new dawn.
➡️ Jesus’ presence = Hope, Salvation, Deliverance.

6. Jesus Steps Into His Assignment

Matthew 4:12–17 – After John the Baptist was imprisoned, Jesus begins His public ministry in Galilee.
Fulfillment of Isaiah 9:1–2“The people which sat in darkness saw great light.”
Verse 17: “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
➡️ His name = Savior.
➡️ His message = Repent, the kingdom has come.
➡️ His presence = Light in the darkness.

7. His Mission Begins in Galilee (Prophecy Fulfilled)

  • Matthew 4:14–15 – Jesus begins in “the land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim… Galilee of the Gentiles.”
  • Why Galilee? It was a despised, mixed region — considered spiritually dark.

8. His Message Declared

  • Matthew 4:17 – “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
  • His name meant Savior.
  • His mission was to call people from darkness into light, from sin into God’s kingdom.
  • Isaiah 9:1–2 had foretold it centuries earlier.
➡️ God chose to reveal Jesus first among the rejected and overlooked.

9. Application for Us Today

  • God knows your name before your beginning (Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee”). Just as Jesus’ name and purpose were established before His birth, so too does God know our names and destinies before we are formed
  • Just like Jesus’ name and purpose were set, you also have a God-given identity and assignment.
  • The enemy may try to cause doubt, but God already established your purpose.
  • The same Light that shone in Galilee still shines in our darkest places today.
  • No place is too despised, too broken, or too dark for Jesus to step in and bring light.

Summary Point:
Jesus was not just born into His mission — His identity, His name, and His calling were all divinely declared before His conception and confirmed at every step until His ministry began. His life fulfills prophecy and proves He is the Son of God and Savior of the world.

Summary Statement:
The angel gave Him the name JESUS before He was conceived, declaring He would save His people. At His circumcision, that name was confirmed. At the start of His ministry, prophecy was fulfilled as He brought light to Galilee, proving that the Savior’s mission was always clear: to be God with us, shining light in darkness, and bringing salvation to all.
